Miami Heat vs Charlotte Hornets Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026

Miami heads to Spectrum Center on Saturday with both teams trying to recover from rough Friday nights. Tipoff in Charlotte is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET. The Heat are favored by 3.5 points, with our slate total at 232.5. Miami has the interior scoring to cause problems, but its defense has given us plenty to question. Charlotte’s immediate task is getting its offense organized after a disastrous home opener. I’m taking Miami to cover and leaning under.

Miami Has to Stop Giving Away Comfortable Scoring Nights

Miami is 0-2 after losing 128-111 to Detroit on Friday, following its 131-106 opening loss to Minnesota. Saturday is its first road game, so the Heat enter with a 0-0 away record. Losing twice is one issue. Being beaten comfortably in both games is another. Miami needs to give itself a chance before the fourth quarter becomes an attempt to repair an already large deficit.

The Heat have averaged 108.5 points while allowing 129.5 through two games. That defensive number is the main obstacle to backing them. Charlotte offers a chance to improve, particularly if Miami can make the Hornets run offense against a set defense. The Heat cannot keep sending extra defenders toward the ball and leaving easy shots elsewhere. They also need rebounds to finish the possessions in which their initial coverage works.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 36 points with 12 rebounds against Detroit after supplying 35 points in the opener. That gives Miami a dependable source of interior pressure. Davion Mitchell added 18 points Friday, providing useful support when Charlotte directs help toward the paint. Miami’s official Saturday injury submission was still pending on the October 24, 12:15 a.m. ET report. These selections assume the primary rotation remains available.

Charlotte Needs a Possession It Can Trust

Charlotte is 1-1, including 0-1 at home, after Friday’s 128-81 loss to Atlanta. The Hornets had opened with a 110-103 win at Brooklyn, so the offensive drop was substantial. Returning to the same floor Saturday removes the travel problem, but Charlotte still needs to respond to a game that became uncompetitive long before the finish.

The Hornets have scored 95.5 points and allowed 115.5 per game through two outings. Atlanta forced 14 turnovers in the first half Friday, creating opportunities before Charlotte could organize its defense. That is the first repair. Miami’s defense has struggled, but the Hornets cannot benefit from that if possessions end without a shot. Cleaner ball movement would also help them find attempts closer to the basket instead of relying on contested jumpers.

Naz Reid led Charlotte with 17 points Friday. Brandon Miller finished with six and made one of 11 three-point attempts; through two games, he was 4-for-25 from outside. Charlotte needs better shooting from a player taking that many attempts. Kon Knueppel, Coby White and Grant Williams missed Friday with hamstring, calf and hamstring problems, respectively. Saturday’s submission was pending, so those Friday absences should not be presented as confirmed Saturday designations.

Where the Matchup Turns

Matchup Betting Impact
Miami’s interior attack vs Charlotte’s help defense The Heat can create scoring chances without requiring a hot outside shooting night.
Charlotte’s ball security vs Miami’s transition opportunities Turnovers could give Miami the separation needed to cover.
Charlotte’s perimeter shooting A substantial improvement would threaten both the Miami spread and the under.

Miami Heat vs Charlotte Hornets Picks and Predictions

Spread Pick: Miami Heat -3.5

I’ll lay 3.5 with Miami. Charlotte’s problems Friday started with its inability to get useful shots consistently, and Miami has an interior scorer who can apply pressure even when the rest of the offense is uneven. The concern is trusting a defense allowing 129.5 points per game. Charlotte could improve considerably simply by protecting the ball and making a reasonable share of its outside attempts. Still, the Heat do not need a dominant defensive performance to cover this small number. They need enough stops to let their interior offense decide the game.

Total Pick: Under 232.5

The under is a smaller preference. Charlotte has produced 110 and 81 points, and I expect Miami to emphasize getting back and defending complete possessions after two poor outings. Both teams also played Friday. That supports some difficult offensive stretches, although fatigue can hurt defense just as easily as shooting. Miami’s defensive record is the strongest argument against this selection, and a sharp Charlotte shooting recovery would make 232.5 reachable. My projection is Miami 117, Charlotte 111, totaling 228.
