Miami visits Sacramento at Golden 1 Center on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. ET. Local coverage includes WPLG and NBC Sports California. Miami is favored by 9.5, with a total of 240.5 in the snapshot I’m using. The Heat have been inconsistent on this trip, but Sacramento has had trouble getting stops at home. Find the rest of Sunday’s matchups on our NBA picks page.
Miami Has a Chance to Get Back to the Rim
The Heat are 3-6 and 2-3 on the road. They beat the Clippers 117-116 in overtime Wednesday before losing 120-100 at Golden State on Thursday. Miami has had two days without a game since that loss. That matters after the back-to-back in California and gives the Heat a better chance to sustain their pressure on Sunday.
Miami scores 116.0 points per game and allows 122.6. The defensive number makes it hard to trust the Heat with a big spread in most matchups. Sacramento’s defense changes the equation. If Miami can get into the paint without first needing to make a bunch of threes, it has a more reliable way to build a lead.
Giannis Antetokounmpo entered the matchup averaging 27.3 points and 12.7 rebounds. He can force Sacramento’s bigs to help early and then make them scramble back to finish the possession. Davion Mitchell had 22 points and eight assists against Golden State. Miami needs that kind of secondary creation if Sacramento packs the lane.
Sacramento Needs the Glass to Keep This Close
The Kings are 1-8 and 0-4 at home after losing 124-109 to San Antonio on Friday. They also lost 116-103 to the Lakers on Wednesday. Sacramento stayed in range for stretches, but it hasn’t been getting enough stops to keep either opponent from building a double-digit margin.
Sacramento averaged 109.3 points and allowed 123.3 through its first eight. The Kings’ best chance is to extend possessions with offensive rebounds and keep Miami from playing in transition. A game built around quick exchanges makes it easier for Miami to get the ball to Antetokounmpo before Sacramento’s help is ready.
Domantas Sabonis entered the matchup averaging 14.9 rebounds, including 4.6 on offense. That gives Sacramento a way to make up for some missed shots and test Miami’s frontcourt. Keegan Murray was listed out in the early report, putting more pressure on the remaining wings to space the floor and handle defensive assignments when Miami attacks.

Miami Heat vs Sacramento Kings Picks and Prediction
Spread Pick: Miami Heat -9.5
I’ll lay 9.5 because Miami has the better chance to get consistent points in the paint. Sacramento can make the cover difficult if Sabonis extends possessions and the Kings get enough shooting around him. Miami’s defense has given me reason to be cautious, but I expect the Heat to create more easy points over four quarters.
Total Pick: Under 240.5
Both defenses have allowed more than 122 points per game in the comparison, so there’s a clear case for the over. I’m taking the under because Sacramento hasn’t shown it can consistently supply the second half of a total this high. The Kings scored 103 and 109 in their last two, and Miami can cover without getting to 125. My projection is Miami 120, Sacramento 108.
Final Picks: Miami Heat -9.5 and Under 240.5.
