KIA Tigers vs Samsung Lions Picks and Prediction for Monday, October 26, 2026

KIA is my preferred side in Monday’s playoff opener, but I want even money or better. Samsung was the better regular-season team, and Chris Paddack’s overall numbers deserve respect. The Tigers’ case comes from their power, James Naile’s matchup history and a Samsung bullpen entering the series without its established closer.

The teams meet at Daegu Samsung Lions Park on Monday, October 26, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. KST, or 5:30 a.m. EDT. MBC will televise the game in South Korea. Sunday’s rainout pushed Game 1 back a day, leaving this best-of-five series tied 0–0. Make sure you are ready for all the action with our free KBO picks.

At the time of this writing, dependable current sportsbook odds were not verified. KIA +100 or better and Under 9.5 at -110 or better are betting requirements, not advertised available prices.

Weather and Field Conditions

Monday’s game-page forecast indicates mostly clear conditions around first pitch, with temperatures near 63–64°F and light easterly winds around 3 mph. Temperatures should fall toward 61°F during the evening. Verified gust figures and an hourly precipitation percentage were unavailable.

The stadium has no roof. The forecast offers a better playing window than Sunday’s, but field readiness still matters after the rainout. Cool temperatures provide a modest reason to expect less carry. The light wind does not offer a strong betting advantage.

A lengthy interruption would change the total handicap. This under assumes normal starter workloads, so renewed rain or a substantial delay threat would be a reason to pass.

Team Comparison

Final regular-season statistics.

Category KIA Tigers Samsung Lions
Finish Third Second
Record 79–63–2 83–58–3
Relevant away/home record 37–34 away 43–29–1 home
Runs scored 769 806
Runs allowed 664 669
Run differential +105 +137
Runs per game 5.34 5.60
Batting average .271 .273
Home runs 174 140
Team ERA 4.27 4.31
Head-to-head wins 9 7

Samsung’s advantage is clear enough: more wins, more runs and a stronger run differential. KIA’s route to an upset is also clear. The Tigers hit 34 more home runs, allowed slightly fewer runs and won the regular-season matchup.

That supports a competitive game. It does not support treating either team as an overwhelming favorite.

Starting Pitchers

Regular-season statistic James Naile Chris Paddack
Record 13–7 7–3
ERA 3.49 2.95
WHIP 1.16 0.96
Innings 183 76⅓
Strikeouts 156 80
Walks 38 11
Strikeout-to-walk ratio 4.11 7.27
Record against opponent 2–0 0–2
ERA against opponent 3.24 5.25
Innings against opponent 25 12

Naile gives KIA a dependable starting point. He handled a full-season workload and limited walks, which matters against an offense capable of building long innings. His most recent appearance was a seven-inning, one-run effort against LG.

Paddack has the better season-long rate statistics. A 0.96 WHIP and only 11 walks make him difficult to beat through patience alone. KIA will need productive contact.

His two starts against the Tigers produced very different results. The first was poor; the second included seven innings and only one earned run. I give KIA credit for having scored against him, but two outings do not erase his broader performance.

KIA Has the Power to Win a Close One

KIA finished 79–63–2 and went 37–34 on the road. The Tigers then beat LG 5–1, 6–3 and 13–1 to advance without needing a fourth or fifth game. Their last appearance was October 20, so fatigue should not be a significant issue Monday.

The offense has multiple ways to punish a mistake. Kim Do-yeong finished with 45 home runs and 118 RBIs, while Na Sung-bum added 31 homers. Harold Castro batted .327 with 21 home runs. That depth matters against a pitcher who rarely walks hitters. KIA does not need to wait for free baserunners to create scoring chances.

The bullpen also has credible options behind Naile. Jeon Sang-hyun posted a 2.33 ERA over 46⅓ regular-season innings, while Cho Sang-woo supplied a 3.29 ERA and 21 holds. The sweep and subsequent break leave no immediate workload concern. The challenge is execution after several days without competitive action.

Samsung’s Home Advantage Comes With a Bullpen Problem

Samsung finished 83–58–3, including a 43–29–1 home record. The Lions earned their bye, although they ended the regular season with four consecutive losses. They have not played a meaningful game since October 12. That creates uncertainty about timing, but it is not evidence that their lineup will automatically start slowly.

The Lions scored 5.60 runs per game during the regular season. They can win without matching KIA’s home-run total by putting runners aboard and extending innings. Naile’s control is important here. If Samsung makes him work through repeated traffic, the Tigers may need their bullpen earlier than expected.

Samsung’s late innings are the larger concern. Kim Jae-yoon, who led the league with 35 saves, is unavailable for the series because of injury. Lee Seung-min offers a strong alternative after a 2.65 ERA and 23 holds, but shifting him toward save situations changes the preceding innings. Koo Ja-wook’s hamstring also affects lineup flexibility: Sunday’s announced plan used him at designated hitter and left Choi Hyung-woo on the bench. Monday’s lineup still requires confirmation.

Bullpen and Availability Comparison

Factor KIA Tigers Samsung Lions
Recent workload Three-game sweep followed by five full days off Thirteen full days since regular-season finale
Useful relief production Jeon: 2.33 ERA; Cho: 21 holds Lee: 2.65 ERA, 23 holds
Main concern Execution after the break Replacing the established closer
Important availability issue Confirm final game-day availability Kim Jae-yoon out for the series
Lineup consideration Confirm Monday’s batting order Koo’s hamstring limits defensive flexibility

Samsung still has capable relief pitching. The injury reduces its margin for error rather than making every late lead unsafe.

KIA Tigers vs Samsung Lions Picks and Prediction

Side Pick: KIA Tigers Moneyline at +100 or Better — Best Bet

Confidence: B− at the required price

I’ll take KIA at even money or better. Naile’s work against Samsung, the Tigers’ power and the Lions’ missing closer give KIA a reasonable path through a close game. Samsung’s stronger regular season and Paddack’s excellent control are substantial objections. His second start against KIA was also much better than the combined matchup ERA suggests. That is why I want the price protection. At +100, the break-even point is 50%; at -150, it is 60%. My assessment does not support paying for that much additional certainty. Pass at any favorite price.

Total Pick: Under 9.5 Runs at -110 or Better

Confidence: C+

The starters’ control and ample recovery time support an under at 9.5. Neither pitcher routinely creates trouble through walks, and the evening forecast does not indicate a strong wind pushing the total upward. The objections are real: these clubs combined to average nearly 11 runs per game during the regular season, KIA has substantial power, and Samsung is missing its closer. Those concerns make the half-run valuable. A 5–4 game wins Under 9.5 but only pushes Under 9. Take 9.5 at -110 or better and pass at nine or lower. A substantial weather interruption would also remove this selection from consideration.

Betting Requirements

Selection Required Entry Pass or Reassess
KIA moneyline — Best Bet +100 or better Any favorite price
Under 9.5 -110 or better Nine or lower, or heavier juice
Both selections Naile vs Paddack Starting-pitcher change
Total Normal starter workloads expected Substantial delay threat
Side Expected core hitters available Material lineup change

Final Prediction

Samsung has enough offense and home-field strength to make this uncomfortable. Paddack could also deliver the best pitching performance of the night. KIA nevertheless offers a credible combination of power, a reliable starter and useful relief options against a club adjusting its late-inning roles.

I prefer the Tigers narrowly. The wager depends on getting the required price.

Projected Final Score: KIA Tigers 5, Samsung Lions 4

Final Picks: KIA moneyline at +100 or better — conditional best bet; Under 9.5 runs at -110 or better. Pass either selection if its entry requirement is unavailable.
