He was much sharper in his two August appearances against Kiwoom, limiting the Heroes to two runs over six innings on August 19 after pitching six innings without allowing an earned run on August 4. Alcántara delivered seven innings of two-run baseball against NC in his latest appearance. The starting-pitching comparison is relatively close, but Rodríguez’s repeated success in this particular matchup gives Lotte the more favorable situational profile.
Lotte Looks to Continue Its Dominance of Kiwoom
Lotte has struggled through the closing portion of the season and enters Saturday having lost eight of its last ten games. The Giants dropped consecutive games against KT by scores of 16-3 and 7-1, allowing 23 runs while scoring only four. Their recent performance makes it difficult to trust them at a significant favorite price, but Saturday’s opponent offers a favorable opportunity to end the slide.
The Giants are batting .268 while averaging approximately 4.69 runs per game. They have collected 96 home runs and own a 4.86 team ERA. Those numbers are not strong enough to make Lotte a reliable favorite against most KBO opponents, but each represents an advantage over Kiwoom’s corresponding full-season production.
Lotte’s strongest argument is its overwhelming success in the season series. The Giants have won 11 of 13 meetings with the Heroes. That 11-2 advantage is difficult to dismiss, especially with Rodríguez producing a 2.05 ERA in his appearances against Kiwoom. Kiwoom enters Saturday on a two-game losing streak after falling 5-0 against Doosan and 6-4 against Samsung. The Heroes have lost seven of their last ten games and remain firmly at the bottom of the standings. Their 45-82-3 record includes a 27-40-2 mark at Gocheok Sky Dome.
The Heroes are batting .243 and averaging approximately 3.82 runs per game, both of which rank near the bottom of the KBO. Their pitching staff has recorded a 5.29 ERA while allowing approximately 5.68 runs per contest. Kiwoom has hit 93 home runs, putting the Heroes close to Lotte in that category, but they have not produced enough consistent traffic on the bases to turn that power into reliable scoring.
Alcántara is capable of keeping Kiwoom competitive, especially with his 1.09 WHIP and excellent walk rate. However, the Heroes have lost each of his three decisions against Lotte. Kiwoom cannot afford to fall behind early because its offense has not shown that it can consistently erase multi-run deficits. The bullpen must also handle a difficult assignment if Alcántara cannot work through at least six innings.
