Doosan Bears vs KT Wiz Picks and Prediction for Thursday, August 27, 2026

The Doosan Bears and KT Wiz close their three-game series Thursday, August 27, at Suwon KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. KST. KT enters the finale at 65-42-3, maintaining a half-game lead over Samsung for first place in the KBO standings, while Doosan sits fifth at 59-51-4.

This series has already demonstrated why Doosan cannot simply be dismissed because of the standings. The Bears took Tuesday’s opener 3-1 behind six strong innings from Choi Min-seok and a clean performance from the back end of the bullpen. KT answered Wednesday with a dramatic 5-4 victory, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth and winning on Kim Hyun-soo’s walk-off hit. That leaves Thursday as the rubber game with significant consequences for both clubs.

The matchup becomes much more interesting once we move beyond the team records. Doosan owns a .270 team batting average and 3.69 team ERA, while KT carried a .279 batting average and 4.37 ERA into Wednesday. In other words, this isn’t simply the league’s first-place team facing an inferior pitching club. Doosan’s staff has actually produced the better overall ERA. Thursday’s betting edge comes primarily from one place: Ko Young-pyo against Choi Seung-yong.

At the time of this writing, a dependable conventional sportsbook moneyline and total were not widely available. For betting purposes, KT Wiz moneyline is my preferred side, while Over 8.5 is the target total. If the total climbs to 9.5, the value becomes considerably thinner.

Starting Pitchers: Ko Young-pyo vs Choi Seung-yong

KT has a substantial advantage on the mound with Ko Young-pyo. The veteran right-hander enters Thursday at 10-6 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 133 strikeouts through 122.2 innings. Perhaps the most impressive number is just 16 walks all season. Ko has struck out more than eight times as many hitters as he has walked, giving KT a starter who rarely creates additional trouble for himself. He has completed 12 quality starts in 21 appearances.

Ko has also been pitching particularly well recently. He allowed three runs over six innings against LG on August 20, striking out six and earning the victory. Before that, he recorded eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings against Kiwoom. His previous three appearances were even stronger: seven scoreless innings against Hanwha, seven scoreless with ten strikeouts against NC, and six scoreless against LG. Across those five starts, Ko surrendered just six earned runs in 31.1 innings while striking out 38.

Doosan has collected hits against Ko this season, but it hasn’t translated into victories. In two starts against the Bears, Ko is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, allowing four earned runs across 12 innings. Doosan has hit .340 against him in those meetings, which is noteworthy, but Ko limited the damage by allowing just three walks and no home runs. That’s an important distinction: Doosan has reached base against him, but it has struggled to convert that traffic into the kind of crooked innings that change games.

Doosan counters with left-hander Choi Seung-yong, and this is where the handicap swings toward KT. Choi is 3-10 with a 5.60 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 91.2 innings. He has allowed 109 hits and 35 walks while striking out 64. Opponents are batting .293 against him, and he has recorded only three quality starts through 19 appearances.

More concerning is what has happened when Choi has faced KT. He is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in two appearances against the Wiz, giving up 13 hits, three walks and ten earned runs over ten innings. KT hitters have batted .317 against him in those meetings. He has struck out only two of the 46 batters he’s faced. That’s not a small warning sign—it is the most important matchup-specific statistic in Thursday’s game.

The difference between the starters is significant. Ko owns the lower ERA, lower WHIP, far superior strikeout-to-walk ratio and much better recent form. Choi has already faced this KT lineup twice and has yet to demonstrate that he can consistently miss its bats or keep runners off base.

Doosan Bears Are More Dangerous Than the Record Suggests

Doosan comes into the series finale at 59-51-4 and remains very much involved in the postseason race. The Bears aren’t playing like a team that should automatically be faded against KT. They defeated Lotte 3-1 Sunday and opened this series with another 3-1 victory Tuesday before letting Wednesday’s game escape in the ninth inning.

One of the most important hitters in the lineup remains Yang Eui-ji. The veteran catcher recently hit the 300th home run of his KBO career in Tuesday’s victory. For the season he is batting approximately .263 with 17 home runs, 62 RBI and an .817 OPS, providing Doosan with one of its most dangerous middle-of-the-order bats. He also controls the strike zone well, drawing 47 walks against only 48 strikeouts.

At the top of the lineup, Park Chan-ho provides a different type of pressure. Park is batting .287 with a .353 on-base percentage, 66 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. He isn’t a major home-run threat, but his ability to get aboard and immediately create pressure on the bases makes him especially important against a pitcher like Ko, whose greatest strength is preventing free baserunners. Park has also hit .282 against KT this season.

Wednesday’s lineup also featured Jung Soo-bin, Ahn Jae-seok, Kim Min-seok and Yunior Severino around Yang in the heart of the order. Doosan created an early opportunity against Davis Daniel when Yang and Severino both reached in the second inning, and the Bears carried a 4-3 lead into the ninth before KT’s comeback.

Doosan’s other advantage is its bullpen. Tuesday provided a perfect illustration. After Choi Min-seok worked six innings, Kim Taek-yeon, Takuto Takada and Lee Young-ha combined for three scoreless innings. Lee recorded his 21st save, while Kim Taek-yeon struck out two in a perfect seventh. That bullpen depth is the biggest reason I prefer KT moneyline rather than trying to force a KT run-line wager.

The Bears are capable of keeping this game close if they reach the middle innings within a run or two. The problem is getting there with Choi Seung-yong facing a KT lineup that has already handled him twice.

KT Wiz Have the Better Offensive Matchup

KT remains atop the KBO because it has been able to win games in several different ways. The Wiz are hitting approximately .279 as a team, giving them a nine-point advantage over Doosan’s .270 mark. Although their overall team ERA isn’t as strong as Doosan’s, Thursday’s starter neutralizes much of that disadvantage.

The lineup presents Choi with multiple difficult outs. Sam Hilliard has been one of the league’s most productive power hitters in his first KBO season. Hilliard is batting .301 with 30 home runs, 99 RBI, 83 runs scored and a .941 OPS. His .569 slugging percentage gives KT legitimate game-changing power in the middle of the order.

Then there is Ahn Hyun-min, who has produced one of the more impressive offensive profiles on the roster. Ahn owns a .296 average, .453 on-base percentage, .510 slugging percentage and .963 OPS through 58 games. He has ten home runs, 40 RBI and an excellent 44 walks. A player reaching base at that rate is exactly what Choi doesn’t need when he already carries a 1.57 WHIP.

Veteran Kim Hyun-soo adds another layer of difficulty. Kim is hitting .274 with 118 hits, 26 doubles and 72 RBI this season. He has been particularly productive when runners reach scoring position, batting .330 in those situations. Wednesday provided a perfect example of why KT values his experience: Kim delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth to preserve KT’s half-game lead in the standings.

Wednesday’s batting order also included Choi Won-jun, Jang Sung-woo, Kim Sang-su, Heo Kyung-min, Han Seung-taek and Kwon Dong-jin. KT doesn’t need every hitter to carry an elite statistical profile. The danger comes from stacking on-base ability ahead of Hilliard and other run producers, forcing pitchers to work with runners aboard.

Against Choi, that’s a particularly dangerous formula. He has allowed more than one hit per inning this season and gives up enough walks to compound the damage. KT has already generated 13 hits in ten innings against him, and the lack of strikeouts in those matchups suggests the Wiz are seeing him extremely well.

Ko Young-pyo’s Command Is the Key to the Matchup

The single statistic I keep coming back to is 133 strikeouts against only 16 walks for Ko Young-pyo.

KBO offenses can turn innings into disasters quickly when pitchers begin issuing free passes. Ko largely removes that element. His 1.15 WHIP is dramatically lower than Choi’s 1.57, and even when opponents have managed hits against him, he rarely compounds those hits by handing out unnecessary baserunners.

Ko has been especially effective with runners aboard. Opponents are batting .243 with men on base and .250 with runners in scoring position. He has also struck out 30 hitters with runners in scoring position. That helps explain how Doosan can own a surprisingly high batting average against him this season yet still have only four earned runs in 12 innings.

There is one vulnerability Doosan can attempt to exploit. Left-handed hitters have batted .292 against Ko, compared with only .225 for right-handed hitters, and ten of his 13 home runs allowed have come against lefties. Doosan’s ability to get its left-handed bats into favorable situations will be important.

There is also a noticeable difference as Ko moves deeper into games. Opponents are batting .226 against him over the first three innings but .301 from the fourth through sixth innings. His sixth-inning opponent batting average is .379. That gives Doosan a realistic path: stay patient early, elevate Ko’s pitch count and try to attack him on the second or third trip through the lineup.

Still, that’s a much more difficult blueprint than what KT needs against Choi. The Wiz simply need to continue doing what they’ve already done against him: put balls in play, force him to work with runners aboard and capitalize when those innings begin stacking up.

The Season Series Has Been Competitive

KT entered Wednesday with a 6-4-1 advantage over Doosan in the season series. Tuesday’s 3-1 Doosan victory narrowed the gap, and KT’s 5-4 comeback Wednesday restored some separation. These haven’t consistently been one-sided games despite KT’s better overall record.

Doosan has also demonstrated that it can win in Suwon. Tuesday wasn’t a fluke created by an offensive explosion. The Bears beat KT with pitching, defense and timely power. Yang Eui-ji’s milestone home run helped erase an early deficit, while the bullpen protected the lead without allowing KT back into the game.

Wednesday flipped that script. Doosan took a lead into the ninth, but KT continued generating pressure until Kim Hyun-soo produced the deciding hit. That’s important when handicapping Thursday because it illustrates the biggest concern about laying a run line with KT. The Wiz may be the better side, but Doosan has demonstrated repeatedly that it can keep this matchup within one or two runs.

The moneyline eliminates the need for margin. With Ko facing Choi, that’s where the strongest value lies.

Doosan Bears vs KT Wiz Betting Analysis

The case for Doosan starts with its overall pitching staff, a competent veteran lineup and a bullpen capable of protecting late leads. Yang Eui-ji can change the game with one swing, Park Chan-ho can manufacture pressure at the top of the lineup, and Doosan already proved Tuesday that it can beat the league leaders in Suwon.

The problem is that Thursday’s starting-pitcher matchup cuts directly against those strengths.

Choi Seung-yong has a 5.60 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and .293 opponent batting average. Against KT specifically, those numbers deteriorate to an 0-2 record, 9.00 ERA and .317 opponent batting average. He has struck out only two KT hitters in ten innings.

Ko Young-pyo has the exact opposite profile. He doesn’t walk hitters, misses significantly more bats, owns a 1.15 WHIP and has already gone 2-0 against Doosan. His recent stretch has also included three scoreless starts within his last five appearances.

That gives KT the better chance of controlling the first five or six innings. If the Wiz can generate three or four runs against Choi before the Doosan bullpen becomes a factor, Ko should give them a strong opportunity to play from ahead.

Doosan Bears vs KT Wiz Picks and Prediction

Pick: KT Wiz Moneyline

KT Wiz ML is the best bet.

This isn’t a pick based simply on KT being first in the standings. Doosan is too good for that kind of reasoning. The Bears own the better team ERA, have a quality bullpen and already won one game in this series. The edge comes from the pitching matchup. Ko Young-pyo enters with a 3.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and an exceptional 133-to-16 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while Choi Seung-yong has a 5.60 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. More importantly, Ko is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA against Doosan while Choi is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA against KT. With Hilliard, Ahn Hyun-min, Kim Hyun-soo and the rest of the KT lineup getting another opportunity against a starter they’ve already hit well twice, the Wiz have the strongest matchup advantage on Thursday’s KBO slate.

Pick: KT Wiz ML

Pick: Over 8.5

The over is playable at 8.5, although it isn’t as strong as the KT moneyline. Ko is capable of limiting Doosan, but the Bears have hit .340 against him in their two previous matchups and possess enough offensive depth to manufacture three or four runs. The bigger scoring opportunity comes on the other side. Choi has surrendered ten earned runs in ten innings against KT, carries a 1.57 WHIP and faces a lineup featuring Hilliard’s 30-home-run power, Ahn’s .453 on-base percentage and Kim Hyun-soo’s run-producing ability. KT could realistically produce five or six runs itself. I would play Over 8.5, still consider Over 9.0, but would be much less interested if the market reaches 9.5 or higher.

Pick: Over 8.5

Final Prediction

KT doesn’t have an overwhelming advantage everywhere in this matchup. Doosan owns the better overall pitching numbers and has already shown that its bullpen can shorten a game against the Wiz.

The difference Thursday is at the very front of those pitching staffs.

Ko Young-pyo gives KT a major advantage over Choi Seung-yong, and the matchup history reinforces the season-long numbers. KT should create baserunners against Choi, generate scoring opportunities for Sam Hilliard, Ahn Hyun-min and Kim Hyun-soo, and give Ko enough early support to work with.

Doosan should make the game competitive, particularly once Ko reaches the middle innings, but KT has the better probability of entering the late innings with the lead.

Best Bet: KT Wiz ML

Total Pick: Over 8.5

Projected Score: KT Wiz 6, Doosan Bears 3
