Samsung Lions players, mascot and Daegu Samsung Lions Park for KBO picks and predictions

KIA Tigers vs Samsung Lions Picks and Prediction for Sunday, October 25, 2026

The KIA Tigers and Samsung Lions open their best-of-five KBO Playoff series Sunday afternoon at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. KST, which is 1:00 a.m. EDT. The winner of this series advances to face the KT Wiz in the Korean Series.

KIA arrives after sweeping the LG Twins in three games and outscoring them 24–5. Samsung earned direct entry into this round by finishing second during the regular season, but the Lions lost their final four games and have not played since October 12. That creates the usual October argument between momentum and rest.

At the time of this writing, dependable sportsbook odds were not available. James Naile and Chris Paddack are the expected starting pitchers, but the KBO had not formally posted the matchup. Our selections are therefore presented with playable betting thresholds. Check out our latest KBO picks for additional Korean baseball predictions.

Samsung finished four games ahead of KIA and produced the better run differential. The Lions scored 37 more runs and drew 113 more walks, demonstrating an ability to create offense without relying entirely on home runs.

KIA produced more concentrated power. The Tigers hit 34 more home runs, finished with a slightly higher OPS and allowed five fewer runs. They also won nine of the 16 regular-season meetings, making the difference between the second and third seeds smaller than the standings suggest.

James Naile: A Reliable Postseason Starter

Naile went 13–7 with a 3.49 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 183 innings. He completed at least six innings with no more than three earned runs in 20 of his 31 starts. His 156 strikeouts against 38 walks gave him a strong 4.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The right-hander was effective in four regular-season appearances against Samsung, going 2–0 with a 3.24 ERA over 25 innings. The Lions recorded 27 hits against him and batted .278, so those games were not effortless. Naile repeatedly limited the damage, allowing only one home run and five walks.

He also enters in excellent postseason form. Naile held LG to one run on four hits across seven innings in the Semi-Playoff opener, striking out six and walking two. He will have seven full days between starts, and his past October work includes a 2.53 ERA over two starts against Samsung during the 2024 Korean Series.

Chris Paddack: Excellent Control With a Smaller Sample

Paddack went 7–3 with a 2.95 ERA and 0.96 WHIP after joining Samsung during the season. He allowed 62 hits and only 11 walks over 76⅓ innings while striking out 80. His 7.27 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the most impressive rate statistic possessed by either starter.

His limited workload requires some context. Paddack made 12 starts and one relief appearance, compared with Naile’s 31 starts. He also dealt with back discomfort late in the season, although a three-inning relief appearance on October 9 demonstrated that he was healthy enough to prepare for the postseason.

KIA faced Paddack once, scoring three runs over six innings during a 12–3 victory at Daegu on July 30. Paddack struck out eight without issuing a walk, but the Tigers collected six hits and eventually broke the game open against Samsung’s bullpen. KIA knows it will probably need to create damage with contact because Paddack rarely provides free baserunners.

KIA Tigers Carry Their Momentum Into Daegu

KIA finished 79–63–2 and went 37–34 away from home. The Tigers reached this round by sweeping LG 3–0, winning 5–1, 6–3 and 13–1. Their starters allowed four earned runs over 18 innings, while the lineup collected 16 hits and four home runs in the clinching victory. Finishing the series early also prevented the bullpen from being overworked.

The offense combines power with several different ways to build an inning. KIA hit .271 with a .347 on-base percentage, .435 slugging percentage and 174 home runs. Kim Do-yeong led the KBO with 45 home runs and finished with 118 RBIs. He then hit three home runs and drove in eight during the sweep of LG. KIA also received strong regular-season production against Samsung from Harold Castro, Na Sung-bum, Kim Sun-bin and Park Jae-hyun.

Naile gives the Tigers a trustworthy Game 1 foundation, and the relief staff should be rested after four full days without a game. The concern is the change in venue and opponent. Samsung reached base more consistently than LG during the regular season and plays well at Daegu. KIA cannot assume another early lead will appear simply because it scored five first-inning runs against LG in Game 2.

Samsung Lions Finally Return to Meaningful Competition

Samsung finished 83–58–3 and went 43–29–1 at home. The Lions earned their direct Playoff berth by finishing second, but their regular season ended with four consecutive losses. Their last two games were defeats of 12–3 and 4–2 against KT. The extended break gave the pitching staff time to recover, though it remains fair to wonder how quickly the lineup will adjust to postseason velocity.

Samsung scored 806 runs while batting .273 with a .362 on-base percentage. Koo Ja-wook won the batting title at .371 and supplied a .458 on-base percentage, while Lewin Díaz drove in 129 runs. The Lions drew 628 walks, 113 more than KIA, and that patience could be important against Naile. Samsung’s best route may be forcing him into long innings rather than waiting for home runs.

Paddack’s command gives Samsung a real chance to control the early innings, but the bullpen will be tested if KIA forces him out after five or six. The Lions used him for only 76⅓ innings after he joined the club, and his recent back issue gives the coaching staff a reason to avoid an excessive pitch count. Samsung has home field and a completely rested relief staff, but it must prove that the long layoff did not dull its timing.

Offensive Comparison

Category KIA Tigers Samsung Lions
Runs per game 5.34 5.60
Batting average .271 .273
On-base percentage .347 .362
Slugging percentage .435 .414
OPS .782 .776
Home runs 174 140
Walks 515 628
Primary strength Home-run power Reaching base
Primary concern Strikeouts and reliance on power Converting traffic into extra-base damage
Offensive grade A- A-

KIA’s advantage is the ability to change the game with one swing. The Tigers hit more home runs and produced the slightly better OPS despite reaching base less frequently. That power becomes especially relevant at Daegu.

Samsung applies pressure differently. The Lions reached base at a .362 rate and drew more walks than any other statistic in this matchup suggests should be ignored. Naile cannot afford to provide additional free passes ahead of the middle of the order.

Bullpen Outlook

Category KIA Tigers Samsung Lions
Recent workload Light during three-game sweep No recent postseason workload
Rest before Game 1 Four full days Twelve full days
Primary advantage Already tested in postseason situations Completely rested
Primary concern Regular-season inconsistency Rust and uncertain postseason sharpness
Bullpen grade B+ B+

KIA’s sweep was nearly ideal from a pitching-management perspective. The starters covered 18 innings, and the 13–1 clincher prevented the high-leverage relievers from facing another stressful finish. The relief staff has now received enough rest without the same lengthy layoff confronting Samsung.

Samsung has every available reliever rested. The question is whether complete freshness outweighs almost two weeks without postseason competition. Neither bullpen holds a clear statistical advantage based on the full-season team ERA and WHIP, so the first manager forced to remove his starter could determine the game.

Head-to-Head Comparison

Category Result
Regular-season series KIA won 9–7
Final regular-season meeting Samsung won 5–4 on October 6
Meetings reaching at least nine runs 10 of 16
KIA home runs 174
Samsung home runs 140
Naile against Samsung 2–0, 3.24 ERA in 25 innings
Paddack against KIA Three runs in six innings
Game 1 location Daegu Samsung Lions Park

KIA won the season series, but the Tigers did not dominate every meeting. Samsung won three of the final four, including the October 6 finale. The entire season sample therefore matters more than either team’s last few head-to-head results.

Ten of the 16 games produced at least nine runs. That supports looking toward the over when the total is eight, although two rested starting pitchers and fully available bullpens create an honest under argument.

Keys to the Game

KIA Tigers

  • Make Paddack work despite his excellent control.
  • Continue producing offense around Kim Do-yeong.
  • Keep Samsung’s patient lineup from elevating Naile’s pitch count.
  • Use power to create runs without relying on long rallies.
  • Force Samsung’s rested bullpen into its first pressure situation.

Samsung Lions

  • Avoid allowing KIA to take another early postseason lead.
  • Create traffic against Naile without chasing pitches outside the zone.
  • Get at least five efficient innings from Paddack.
  • Keep runners off base ahead of KIA’s power hitters.
  • Turn the long layoff into fresh legs instead of tentative at-bats.

Betting Range and Pass Conditions

Selection Playable Range Pass or Reassessment Condition
KIA moneyline — Best Bet +100 or better KIA becomes a meaningful favorite
Over 8 runs -110 or better Total rises above eight
Either wager Confirm Naile vs Paddack Reassess after any starter change
Total Confirm playable weather Pass if a lengthy delay appears likely

KIA at +100 requires a 50% win rate to break even. That is the price range where its recent form, power and starting-pitcher matchup become worth backing. Without a dependable market, there is no reason to chase a worse number.

The total is more weather-sensitive. Rain does not automatically produce an under, especially if a delay removes either starter early. It does create enough uncertainty to require another check before first pitch.

KIA Tigers vs Samsung Lions Picks and Prediction

Side Pick: KIA Tigers Moneyline at +100 or Better — Best Bet

KIA has already demonstrated that it can handle postseason pressure. The Tigers swept LG without exhausting their rotation or bullpen, won the regular-season series against Samsung and can start a pitcher who went 2–0 with a 3.24 ERA in four meetings with the Lions. Their 174 home runs also give them the best chance to create a quick scoring swing at Daegu.

Samsung deserves respect for its 43–29–1 home record, patient offense and Paddack’s 2.95 ERA. The Lions could easily win if Paddack controls the strike zone and their rested lineup returns sharp. I still prefer KIA at even money or better because Naile has the larger workload, stronger postseason history and proven success in this matchup. Pass if KIA becomes a meaningful favorite.

Total Pick: Over 8 Runs at -110 or Better

Eight is the number that makes the over playable. KIA and Samsung combined to average 10.94 runs per game, and ten of their 16 meetings reached at least nine runs. KIA brings more home-run power, while Samsung’s .362 on-base percentage gives the Lions a reliable way to create traffic even against a good starter.

The counterargument is obvious. Naile and Paddack both own strong control numbers, and each bullpen is rested. The uncertain weather adds another complication. The push protection at eight is important enough to accept those risks. Play Over 8 at -110 or better only if the radar suggests the game can proceed without a significant interruption. Pass above eight or when a lengthy delay threatens the starting-pitcher workloads.

Final Prediction

KIA is carrying real momentum, but this should be far more competitive than its series against LG. Samsung owns home field, the better regular-season record and a starter who rarely gives opponents free baserunners.

The Tigers have the stronger recent form, more power and the more proven postseason starter. Naile’s ability to prevent walks should keep Samsung from fully exploiting its greatest offensive strength, while KIA has already shown it can score against Paddack in Daegu.

Projected Final Score: KIA Tigers 5, Samsung Lions 4

Final Picks: KIA Tigers moneyline at +100 or better — BEST BET; Over 8 runs at -110 or better.
