Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Clippers Picks and Predictions for Wednesday October 21 2026

Sacramento visits the Clippers on Wednesday at Intuit Dome, with both teams already adjusting their plans because of injuries. The Kings have lost Ben Simmons to an Achilles tear, while Los Angeles opens without several scoring options, including Brandon Ingram. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET, with regional coverage on KTLA and NBC Sports California. The Clippers are favored by 4.5 points, with the total at 228.5. I’m taking Sacramento with the points and looking under the total.

Sacramento Has to Make Its Returning Veterans Count

Sacramento finished 22-60 last season and went 7-34 on the road. That is a hard record to ignore when backing the Kings away from home. They also lost three of four meetings with the Clippers, although their lone victory came at Intuit Dome. The argument for Sacramento Wednesday depends on its returning veterans giving the offense more structure than last season’s depleted rotations could consistently provide.

The Kings averaged 111.0 points and allowed 121.0 last season. Opponents shot 49.4% from the field, leaving Sacramento too many nights where merely keeping up required a strong offensive performance. The defensive assignment Wednesday should be more manageable against a shorthanded Clippers group, but the Kings still need to contain the ball without losing the next pass. Helping toward Darius Garland and leaving an unattended finish behind the coverage would make Los Angeles’s missing scorers less consequential.

Domantas Sabonis averaged 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in only 19 games last season. Zach LaVine contributed 19.2 points in 39 appearances and shot 39.0% from three. Those were injury-shortened samples, but Sabonis’s passing and LaVine’s shooting offer a practical offensive combination. Sacramento will have to proceed without Simmons after his Achilles tear. Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell have also been listed out, while Malik Monk has carried an ankle-related day-to-day designation. The depleted center depth makes keeping Sabonis out of early foul trouble especially important.

The Clippers Need Garland to Organize a Thin Scoring Group

The Clippers went 42-40 last season, including 23-18 at home. Their three wins against Sacramento provide background, but this is a substantially changed roster. Kawhi Leonard is now in Toronto, and the player acquired to help replace his scoring is unavailable for the opener. Los Angeles has enough to win Wednesday. Covering multiple possessions requires a little more confidence in the available offense.

Los Angeles averaged 113.8 points and allowed 112.6 last season. The Clippers shot 48.4% from the field, but that efficiency came from a group that no longer represents the full current rotation. Their best route is to keep the decisions simple: create an advantage with Garland, move the ball when help arrives and get a good attempt without allowing the possession to stall. Defensively, they need to make Sabonis work for his catches and stay attached to the shooters moving around him.

Garland averaged 18.8 points and 6.7 assists across 45 games split between Cleveland and Los Angeles last season. Rui Hachimura arrives after averaging 11.5 points and shooting 44.3% from three for the Lakers. Garland’s passing can create the opportunity, and Hachimura gives him a shooter who can finish it. The Clippers are missing Ingram, Bradley Beal, Max Strus, Jordan Miller and Yanic Konan Niederhauser. Isaiah Jackson has been named the starting center, while Kobe Sanders is expected to return after missing the preseason. Sanders offers another perimeter option, but his return does not replace all the scoring unavailable Wednesday.

Three Matchups Worth Watching

Matchup Why It Matters
Sabonis receiving the ball against Los Angeles’s interior coverage His passing can create opportunities for cutters and shooters before the defense resets.
Garland against Sacramento’s perimeter defense The Clippers need their primary creator to produce advantages without excessive turnovers.
Available bench scoring Injuries leave both teams vulnerable when the main offensive organizers sit.

Scoring Comparison Against the Total

Scoring Measure Combined Points
Sacramento’s average game last season 232.0
Los Angeles’s average game last season 226.4
Simple average of those figures 229.2
Betting total used 228.5
Our projected total 221

The historical midpoint is above the betting total. The under selection therefore depends on the current offensive absences and expected matchup, rather than the simple scoring comparison.

Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Clippers Picks and Predictions

Spread Pick: Sacramento Kings +4.5

I’ll take Sacramento with 4.5 points. The Kings’ road record is the strongest argument against this selection, and their defense has plenty to prove. I’m still reluctant to ask this Clippers rotation to create separation while missing so many scoring options. Sabonis gives Sacramento a way to organize the half-court offense, and LaVine’s shooting can keep the visitors connected even when they aren’t controlling the game. Garland exploiting Sacramento’s defensive mistakes could make that assessment look too generous. The Kings’ limited center depth is another concern if Sabonis gets into foul trouble. I have Los Angeles winning 112-109, which makes the Clippers my projected winner and Sacramento the spread selection.

Total Pick: Under 228.5

The under is my stronger preference because both offenses have fewer reliable options than their full rosters suggest. Los Angeles needs Garland to create a large share of its advantages, while Sacramento has lost Simmons and may not get normal production from Monk. There should be stretches where a defended first action leaves either team searching for a late-clock answer. Sacramento’s poor defense is the obvious counterargument. The Clippers might find efficient opportunities without needing their absent scorers, and Sabonis could create clean looks at the other end. Even so, I expect enough difficult possessions and uneven bench minutes to hold this below 228.5. My projection lands at 221 combined points.
