The NC Dinos travel to Daejeon to face the Hanwha Eagles on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. KST. Friday’s scheduled series opener was wiped out by rain, which changed the pitching plans for Saturday and gives NC an opportunity to send one of its best starters to the mound.
NC enters the matchup at 48-58 after an inconsistent stretch that included losses of 5-4 and 8-0 against LG before the Dinos erupted for a 13-3 victory on Thursday. Hanwha sits at 49-58, but the Eagles have been headed in the opposite direction. They lost all three games of their most recent series against SSG by scores of 7-1, 6-1 and 13-6, extending what has become a miserable August. Hanwha entered the weekend having gone just 3-13 during the month.

At the time of this writing, a widely available consensus betting line was not available. My preferred side is NC Dinos moneyline, while the total becomes playable at Under 9.5. The starting-pitching matchup gives NC a significant advantage, and that makes the Dinos my KBO Best Bet for Saturday.
Starting Pitchers: Riley Thompson vs Park Jun-yeong
NC will start Riley Thompson, who has quietly developed into one of the more effective pitchers in the KBO this season. Thompson enters Saturday at 5-1 with a 2.92 ERA across 16 appearances and 95.2 innings. He has allowed only 77 hits while striking out 128 and walking 23, giving him a strong 1.05 WHIP. Opponents are batting just .219 against him, and he has recorded 10 quality starts.
One of the numbers that stands out most with Thompson is his performance when opponents actually put runners on base. Hitters are batting only .193 against him with runners aboard and an even lower .155 with runners in scoring position. That’s exactly the type of profile I want when backing a road starter because it gives him a better chance of escaping the occasional difficult inning without allowing it to become a crooked number.
Thompson isn’t completely invulnerable against Hanwha. The Eagles have shown that they can hurt him with the long ball, which is the biggest concern with this handicap. But over the larger sample, Thompson’s combination of strikeouts, control and run prevention makes him clearly the more trustworthy starting pitcher Saturday.
Hanwha counters with Park Jun-yeong, who has spent much of the season moving between starting and relief work. Park enters with a 1-1 record and 5.66 ERA through 33 appearances and 55.2 innings. He has allowed 52 hits, nine home runs and 33 walks while striking out 50. His 1.53 WHIP and .260 opponent batting average illustrate the amount of traffic he has had to work around.
His latest appearance was particularly concerning. Park started against LG on August 23 and lasted only 1.2 innings, surrendering eight earned runs. He allowed three hits, two home runs and four walks before being removed. That’s the kind of outing that raises questions about both command and how deep Hanwha can reasonably expect him to work Saturday.
This is the central reason I’m backing NC. Thompson doesn’t merely have the better ERA. His strikeout rate, WHIP, command and ability to limit damage with men on base give the Dinos several different paths to controlling the first half of the game.
NC Dinos Have the Better Starting-Pitching Setup
NC’s 48-58 record isn’t going to scare anyone, and the Dinos have allowed more runs than they’ve scored this season. Through 108 games in the available statistical sample, NC had scored 540 runs while allowing 582. The offense was hitting .271 with a .352 on-base percentage and .400 slugging percentage while producing 100 home runs.
There are still several dangerous pieces in this lineup. Kim Ju-won has been one of NC’s most productive all-around players, combining a .290 average with 15 home runs, 49 RBI and 28 stolen bases. His ability to impact the game both at the plate and on the bases becomes particularly valuable against a pitcher like Park, who has allowed too many baserunners.
Cheon Jae-hwan has also provided quality production when in the lineup, batting above .300 in the available season statistics, while Ahn Jung-yeol has supplied another strong on-base presence. This isn’t necessarily an NC offense I’d want to lay a huge number with, but it has enough contact and baserunning ability to make Park’s control issues expensive.
The encouraging part of Thursday’s 13-3 win over LG was simply seeing the offense break loose after being shut out 8-0 one night earlier. NC has been volatile offensively, but that volatility works in our favor when the opposing starter enters with a WHIP north of 1.50 and is coming off an eight-run performance.
NC doesn’t need another 13-run explosion to cash this wager. If Thompson can give the Dinos six quality innings, something in the range of four or five runs should be enough to put them in a favorable position.
Hanwha Eagles Continue to Slide
Few teams entered the final weekend of August in worse form than Hanwha.
The Eagles went 3-13 through their first 16 August games, good for just a .188 winning percentage. Their recent series against SSG showed how quickly games have gotten away from them. Hanwha scored only one run in each of the first two games before allowing 13 runs in Thursday’s finale.
That doesn’t mean this is an offense without talent. Hanwha has actually scored more runs than NC over the season, producing 633 runs through its available 107-game sample. Its underlying run differential also suggests the Eagles have performed somewhat better than their 49-58 record indicates.
Chae Eun-sung remains one of the veteran bats capable of causing problems in the middle of the lineup. His season numbers include a .286 batting average and .351 on-base percentage in the available statistics. Hanwha also possesses enough power elsewhere in the order that Thompson cannot afford mistakes over the heart of the plate.
The larger problem is that Hanwha has not consistently turned that offensive potential into wins lately. Poor pitching, defensive mistakes and stretches of ineffective offense have combined to put considerable pressure on the Eagles almost every night.
Saturday’s starting matchup only increases that pressure. If Park struggles early again, Hanwha may be forced into its bullpen while simultaneously trying to solve a pitcher with a 2.92 ERA and 128 strikeouts.
That’s a difficult combination to overcome.
NC and Hanwha Have Produced Some Wild Head-to-Head Results
This season series deserves some attention because these clubs haven’t always played the type of games their starting-pitcher numbers would suggest.
NC beat Hanwha 6-0 on June 18 after taking a 5-4 game one night earlier. When the teams met again in Daejeon in July, NC won 9-6 before Hanwha answered with a 6-4 victory. There was also an 18-run matchup earlier in the season.
That scoring history is why I prefer Under 9.5 rather than chasing something like Under 8.0 or Under 8.5. These clubs have shown the ability to turn games into bullpen shootouts, and Hanwha’s pitching makes that possibility impossible to dismiss.
However, Thompson gives Saturday a different complexion.
NC has a legitimate chance to keep Hanwha around three or four runs, and if Park is merely serviceable rather than disastrous, reaching double digits becomes considerably more difficult.
The side remains much stronger than the total because we don’t need to predict exactly how Hanwha’s pitching staff performs. We simply need NC to outscore it.
NC Dinos vs Hanwha Eagles Picks and Prediction
Pick: NC Dinos Moneyline
NC Dinos ML is my Best Bet for Saturday’s KBO slate.
This handicap starts with Riley Thompson. His 2.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 128 strikeouts through 95.2 innings represent one of the strongest starting profiles available Saturday. Park Jun-yeong enters with a 5.66 ERA and 1.53 WHIP and is coming directly off an outing in which LG scored eight runs against him in 1.2 innings.
The recent team form makes the gap even more attractive. Hanwha has lost seven of its last eight completed games shown on its August schedule, including three consecutive defeats against SSG immediately before this series. The Eagles’ 3-13 August record is difficult to overlook. NC hasn’t exactly been rolling, but Thursday’s 13-run performance demonstrated that this lineup can punish vulnerable pitching.
There is always some bullpen risk when backing a sub-.500 KBO club on the road, so I’m not treating NC as an enormous favorite. But at a reasonable moneyline price, the starting-pitching advantage is simply too large to ignore.
Best Bet: NC Dinos ML
Pick: Under 9.5
The total is the secondary wager.
Thompson’s ability to suppress hits with runners in scoring position gives NC a strong chance to keep Hanwha from producing the type of five- or six-run output required to push this game over the number. His strikeout ability also reduces the number of balls Hanwha can put into play with men on base.
Park is the obvious threat to the Under. His command has been inconsistent, and NC could potentially do significant damage early. That’s why I wouldn’t recommend Under 8.5 with nearly the same confidence.
At 9.5, though, we have some breathing room. A 5-3, 5-4 or 6-3 game all cash the wager.
Total Pick: Under 9.5
NC Dinos vs Hanwha Eagles Best Bet
