CFL Best Bet of the Week
Best Bet: Hamilton Tiger-Cats +0.5
Hamilton is only 4-11, but the Tiger-Cats showed meaningful fight in their 37-35 overtime loss at Edmonton. Taking one of the CFL’s best teams into overtime on the road was a much stronger performance than Hamilton’s record might suggest. The Tiger-Cats have now scored 362 points this season, including 35 against a strong Edmonton defense.
Ottawa is still searching for its first victory at 0-14. The Redblacks have surrendered 524 points, the most in the CFL, while allowing 40 and 45 points in consecutive losses to Calgary. Ottawa is receiving a slight home-field advantage from the market, but it has not demonstrated an ability to finish games. Getting Hamilton +0.5 against a winless opponent is the strongest Week 18 position, and the Tiger-Cats are also the preferred moneyline selection.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs Ottawa Redblacks Pick
The moneyline pick for this matchup is Hamilton, the ATS pick is Hamilton +0.5, and the total pick is Over 60.5. Hamilton fell to 4-11 after losing 37-35 in overtime at Edmonton, but that was easily one of its strongest recent performances. The Tiger-Cats scored 35 points against the West Division leader and came within one possession of producing a major upset.
Ottawa dropped to 0-14 following a 45-31 home loss to Calgary. The Redblacks have scored 339 points while allowing 524, producing a league-worst minus-185 scoring differential. Ottawa has been more competitive offensively over the past two weeks, scoring 38 and 31 points, but its defense has surrendered 85 points during that stretch.
Both teams have defensive problems, making the over more attractive than trusting either side to control the game. Hamilton has the better record, enters after a competitive road performance and faces an opponent that has yet to finish a game successfully. The Tiger-Cats win a high-scoring matchup and cover the half-point spread.
Calgary Stampeders vs Saskatchewan Roughriders Pick
The moneyline pick for this matchup is Saskatchewan, the ATS pick is Calgary +6.0, and the total pick is Under 62.5. Calgary improved to 7-8 by defeating Ottawa 45-31, giving the Stampeders consecutive victories. They have scored 85 points over those two games and have now produced a league-high 535 points this season.
Saskatchewan is 8-6 following a 31-24 loss at BC. The Roughriders have dropped two consecutive games after previously positioning themselves among the strongest teams in the West. However, they return to Mosaic Stadium with a defense that has allowed 371 points, considerably fewer than the 510 surrendered by Calgary.
Saskatchewan receives the moneyline lean because of its home-field advantage and better defensive profile, but six points is too much to lay against Calgary’s explosive offense. The Stampeders should remain within one possession even if Saskatchewan controls the result. The under is also playable because the Roughriders have scored only 30 total points over their past two games.
BC Lions vs Toronto Argonauts Pick
The moneyline pick for this matchup is Toronto, the ATS pick is Toronto +0.5, and the total pick is Under 65.5. BC improved to 8-6 by defeating Saskatchewan 31-24 and has won two consecutive games. The Lions have scored 428 points while allowing 381, giving them one of the strongest scoring differentials in the West Division.
Toronto enters at 9-6 after defeating Winnipeg 30-28. The Argonauts have won four consecutive games, including victories over Edmonton and Winnipeg during the past two weeks. Toronto also defeated BC 26-12 in Vancouver earlier this season, holding the Lions to one of their lowest offensive outputs of the year.
The market is giving BC a narrow edge, but Toronto’s winning streak, earlier head-to-head victory and home-field advantage make the Argonauts the better side. The total of 65.5 is extremely high for a Toronto team whose last three games produced 49, 43 and 58 combined points. Toronto wins outright, and the rematch stays under the total.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Montreal Alouettes Pick
The moneyline pick for this matchup is Montreal, the ATS pick is Montreal -6.0, and the total pick is Over 58.5. Winnipeg fell to 7-7 after losing 30-28 at home against Toronto. The Blue Bombers have scored 371 points and allowed 382, leaving them with a losing scoring differential through 14 games.
Montreal returns from its bye with an 11-3 record and the best record in the CFL. The Alouettes have scored 498 points through 14 games, an average of more than 35 points per contest. They have also won seven consecutive divisional games and remain the most reliable team in the East.
Winnipeg can contribute enough offense to push this game over 58.5, but its defense faces a difficult assignment against the league’s highest-scoring team on the road. Montreal should create separation as the game progresses and finish with a comfortable home victory. The Alouettes win, cover six points and lead the matchup over the total.
