Milwaukee Brewers vs Tampa Bay Rays Picks and Prediction for Wednesday October 28 2026

Tampa Bay had to win Tuesday, and it did. Coming back in the 12th inning took some nerve, especially after Milwaukee had moved back in front. The Rays earned another night. But I’m not ready to turn one narrow win into a different assessment of the whole series. Milwaukee has still produced the more consistent offense, and the expected Game 5 pitching matchup gives me another reason to lean toward the Brewers.

Milwaukee visits Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Wednesday, October 28. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One. The Brewers lead the World Series 3–1 and can clinch their first championship. A Rays victory sends the series back to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Friday. Starting Pitchers: Expected Jacob Misiorowski vs Nick Martinez

CBS lists Jacob Misiorowski against Nick Martinez. MLB’s checked probable-pitcher page still showed TBD for both teams. The following analysis assumes that expected matchup holds.

Statistic Jacob Misiorowski — Milwaukee Nick Martinez — Tampa Bay
Postseason record 1–0 1–1
Postseason ERA 2.70 3.21
Postseason innings 13⅓ 14
Postseason WHIP 1.35 1.07
Postseason strikeouts 14 11
Postseason walks 5 3
Game 1 innings 5 5
Game 1 earned runs allowed 1 2

Misiorowski gives Milwaukee the higher strikeout ceiling. His regular-season dominance does not mean Tampa Bay cannot touch him, but he has the ability to finish an at-bat without asking the defense for help. In Game 1, he provided five innings of one-run pitching. Milwaukee would gladly take another outing like that.

Martinez kept the opener competitive, too. His postseason WHIP is lower, and he has issued fewer walks. That is useful against an offense that keeps trying to turn a single baserunner into a long inning. The concern is how often he needs contact to go his way against a Milwaukee lineup that has repeatedly found holes.

Both last started October 23, which would give them four full days of rest. This is not a short-rest projection. The expected starters are one reason I lean Under, but neither team should assume its bullpen is entering with the same flexibility it had before Tuesday’s 12-inning game.

Milwaukee Still Has the Stronger Offensive Case

Milwaukee finished the regular season 103–59, including 55–26 at home and 48–33 on the road. The Brewers are now 10–2 in the postseason. Tuesday ended an eight-game winning streak, and the finish will bother them: they took a lead in the 12th and could not close it out.

The offense has earned more trust than one disappointing finish should remove. Milwaukee scored 832 regular-season runs with a .341 on-base percentage. It has continued creating opportunities throughout this series, whether through patient at-bats, singles or extra-base hits. There is less dependence on one big swing than the home-run totals might suggest.

The immediate question is what Tuesday took out of the bullpen. Milwaukee has relied heavily on its relief pitching throughout October, and another long night would test those options. That makes getting useful innings from the expected starter important. I prefer the Brewers when they can choose their late matchups rather than spend the middle innings covering an early exit.

Tampa Bay Earned Another Chance

Tampa Bay went 98–64 in the regular season, with a 55–26 home record and a 43–38 road mark. Its postseason record is 8–5 after Tuesday’s victory. That was the sort of finish the Rays had been missing: they answered a late deficit instead of leaving the tying run stranded.

The bigger offensive issue remains. Tampa Bay has scored 11 runs in four World Series games, and four of those came in the first inning of Game 2. The Rays have enough power and speed to create a useful inning, but they have not consistently followed it with another. Tuesday’s win buys them time to fix that; it does not establish that the problem is solved.

I would like to see Tampa Bay make the expected starter work without giving away strikes in favorable counts. Falling behind repeatedly against a power arm is a difficult way to build offense. Getting somebody aboard, extending an inning and making Milwaukee consider an earlier pitching change would give the Rays a better chance than simply waiting for a mistake over the plate.

Regular-Season Comparison

Statistic Milwaukee Tampa Bay
Runs scored 832 736
Runs per game 5.14 4.54
Batting average .258 .258
On-base percentage .341 .326
Slugging percentage .403 .402
Home runs 154 169
Walks drawn 668 514
Stolen bases 162 164
Team ERA 3.51 3.70
Team WHIP 1.18 1.14

The walk difference remains a major part of Milwaukee’s advantage. Tampa Bay can match the Brewers in contact and power without matching the number of scoring chances they create.

That is also why I hesitate to lay an inflated price on Milwaukee. Tampa Bay’s expected starter has limited walks this postseason, giving the Rays a plausible way to interrupt that approach.

World Series Results Through Game 4

Game Milwaukee runs Tampa Bay runs Result
Game 1 3 2 Milwaukee win
Game 2 5 4 Milwaukee win
Game 3 10 1 Milwaukee win
Game 4 3 4 Tampa Bay win, 12 innings
Total 21 11 Milwaukee leads 3–1

Three one-run games tell us Tampa Bay has competed more closely than the aggregate score suggests. Milwaukee’s eight-run inning in Game 3 accounts for much of that scoring gap.

Still, the Brewers have found enough offense in every game to give themselves a chance late. Tampa Bay has needed stronger pitching performances because its scoring has been less dependable.

Game 5 Matchup Factors

Factor Lean What it means
Expected starter’s strikeout ceiling Milwaukee More opportunities to escape without a ball in play
Expected starter’s October baserunner prevention Tampa Bay Lower postseason WHIP in the expected matchup
Offensive patience Milwaukee More ways to keep an inning going
Home field Tampa Bay Familiar conditions and the final at-bat
Bullpen availability Requires final check Twelve innings Tuesday complicate both pitching plans
Recent result Tampa Bay A deserved win, without guaranteeing carryover

Tuesday’s result matters most for availability and the series standing. I do not want to use “momentum” as a substitute for knowing which pitchers can work and how long the starters are likely to last.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Tampa Bay Rays Picks and Prediction

Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline — Target -150 or Better

Milwaukee is my provisional best bet if the expected starting matchup holds and the price is -150 or better. The Brewers have the higher-ceiling starter and the more dependable offense across the series. Tampa Bay’s expected starter has kept baserunners under control, though, and Tuesday’s bullpen workload could narrow Milwaukee’s usual late-inning advantage. Those are real reasons to keep a price limit. I expect the Brewers to create enough scoring opportunities to win, but I would pass rather than pay a much steeper number simply because they are one victory from the title.

Under 7 Runs — Target -110 or Better

I lean Under seven with the expected starters returning on normal rest. Tampa Bay has struggled to put together repeated scoring innings, while its expected starter has generally avoided handing out free baserunners. The risk is what happens after the starters leave. Tuesday required extra relief work, and an early exit could expose less desirable matchups. That keeps the total below the moneyline in confidence. My projection is six combined runs, and I want the protection of a push at seven. This remains a target selection until the matchup and line are confirmed.

Projected Final Score: Milwaukee Brewers 4, Tampa Bay Rays 2

Final Picks: Brewers moneyline at -150 or better; Under 7 at -110 or better. Both selections depend on the expected starting matchup being confirmed.

Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers moneyline at -150 or better.
