An Woo-jin: Better Than His Record
An Woo-jin’s 3-8 record does not accurately reflect how effectively he has pitched. The right-hander owns a 3.88 ERA with 111 strikeouts through 95 innings. He has allowed only seven home runs, giving him the ability to challenge hitters without consistently being punished for mistakes over the plate.
An has also performed well against KIA. He shut out the Tigers through seven innings on August 22, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out six. In his previous appearance at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field, he allowed two runs through five innings and recorded eight strikeouts.
There are concerns surrounding his recent form. An allowed nine hits and four runs in five innings against NC on September 4 after surrendering five runs in five innings against Doosan. However, the additional rest preceding Thursday’s start could help him recover some of the velocity and command that made him effective against KIA earlier in the season.
Adam Oller: KIA’s Reliable Run Preventer
Adam Oller has developed into one of the KBO’s best starting pitchers. He enters Thursday with an 11-9 record, 2.91 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. His 159 strikeouts rank among the league leaders, while opponents have collected only 104 hits across 148⅓ innings.
Oller has been particularly dominant over his last six starts. During that stretch, he has allowed seven earned runs across 38⅔ innings, producing an ERA of approximately 1.63. He has completed at least six innings in all six appearances and has recorded 47 strikeouts against only seven walks.
The right-hander has also handled Kiwoom successfully. Oller owns a 1.50 ERA in two starts against the Heroes this season. He held them to one run across six innings on June 23 and delivered six innings of one-run baseball in their August 22 meeting. Kiwoom has not demonstrated that it can consistently square up his fastball or force him into hitter-friendly counts.
