Orlando visits Toronto on Wednesday in the first of two meetings between the teams this week. Both sides are adjusting to important absences, making their opening results less useful without considering who will actually play. Tipoff at Scotiabank Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Our betting numbers are Orlando +5.5 and a total of 224.5. I’m taking the Magic with the points and looking under.

Orlando Has to Create Offense Differently
Orlando is 1-2 overall and 1-0 on the road after Sunday’s 111-102 comeback victory at New York. Winning away from home was encouraging after two home defeats. The Magic found enough offense late to change that game, but they cannot assume another big fourth quarter will arrive on demand. They need more consistent possessions before reaching that point.
The Magic have averaged 109.7 points while allowing 116.7 through three games, calculated from their completed scores. Those figures describe the start, but the current lineup requires a fresh look. Orlando needs to move the ball and avoid allowing possessions to stall around one creator. Defensively, completing possessions is essential. Giving Toronto extra attempts would make the Magic’s own scoring limitations much harder to manage.
Franz Wagner supplied 23 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists against New York. His ability to score and create for teammates becomes especially important with Paolo Banchero out because of an ankle injury. Desmond Bane added 22 points in that victory, providing another source of offense. Jalen Suggs is also out with a knee injury, removing an important guard from both ends of the floor. Anthony Black’s return provides help, but Orlando still needs to distribute the missing creation across its rotation.
Toronto Needs a Better Response Without Leonard
Toronto is 2-1 overall and 1-0 at home after Sunday’s 117-94 loss at Minnesota. The Raptors opened with two wins before struggling badly in that road assignment. Returning home should help, but it does not replace the player missing from their lineup. Toronto needs a more organized response when the first few shots fail to fall.
The Raptors have averaged 113.7 points and allowed 103.7 through three games. Their defensive average benefits considerably from the opening blowout against Chicago, so it should not be treated as an established level. Toronto’s immediate priority is to keep its defense functional when the offense becomes difficult. Poor shots followed by slow recovery would give Orlando the kind of easier opportunities the visitors need.
Ja’Kobe Walter scored 22 points against Minnesota, while RJ Barrett added 20. Scottie Barnes missed all 12 of his field-goal attempts, leaving obvious room for improvement without assuming a huge scoring night. Kawhi Leonard is out with left-knee swelling, removing an established scoring and defensive option. Toronto needs Barnes and Barrett to create useful possessions while the supporting players keep the ball moving. A Barnes response would help, but Leonard’s absence still changes the assignment.

| Matchup | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Wagner’s creation vs Toronto’s available perimeter defenders | Orlando needs useful possessions while missing Banchero and Suggs. |
| Barnes and Barrett vs Orlando’s help defense | Toronto must replace some of Leonard’s offensive responsibility without forcing shots. |
| Defensive rebounding and turnovers | Easy extra opportunities could decide the spread and weaken the under. |
Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors Picks and Predictions
Spread Pick: Orlando Magic +5.5
I’m taking Orlando +5.5 while projecting Toronto to win narrowly. The Magic’s injuries are significant, but Toronto is also missing a player who changes the quality of its offense and perimeter defense. Wagner and Bane give Orlando enough creation to stay involved if the visitors protect the ball and avoid long scoring droughts. Toronto’s home floor and the possibility of a Barnes recovery are the strongest arguments against the pick. Orlando could also struggle if it needs another unusually productive stretch from the supporting shooters. Still, this looks more like a competitive game between adjusted rotations than a comfortable home win. My projection is Toronto 110, Orlando 107. Getting +5.5 rather than +4.5 matters.
Total Pick: Under 224.5
I prefer under 224.5 because both teams are missing important offensive options. Orlando has to replace Banchero’s creation while also playing without Suggs, and Toronto needs to generate enough quality possessions without Leonard. That can produce longer stretches of half-court work and more attempts late in the shot clock. The danger is that the absences hurt defense as well. Turnovers, poor recovery and offensive rebounds could create points without either team executing particularly well. Orlando’s outside shooting in New York also showed how quickly a total can change. My projection reaches 217, leaving a reasonable cushion below the listed number. The under is my stronger preference in this matchup.
