Cleveland returns to Rocket Arena on Saturday after letting a commanding lead disappear in Philadelphia. Brooklyn arrives with two days off following its own opening loss. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. ET in Cleveland, with the Cavaliers favored by 10.5 points and the total at 231.5. I expect the Cavaliers to win, but the strongest selection here is the under. Cleveland needs a more complete performance, and Brooklyn needs more dependable scoring beyond its leading options.

Brooklyn Needs More Than Two Productive Scorers
Brooklyn is 0-1 after losing 110-103 at home to Charlotte on Wednesday. Saturday is its first road game, giving the Nets a 0-0 away record entering Cleveland. The extra time between games should help preparation, but the Nets still have to demonstrate that they can find reliable offense when the opponent takes away the first option.
Brooklyn scored 103 points in its opener despite strong individual scoring at the top of the lineup. That leaves room for better contributions elsewhere, but it also identifies the problem against Cleveland. If the Cavaliers can defend the initial action without overcommitting, Brooklyn has to create another good opportunity. The Nets need movement around the ball and enough defensive rebounding to avoid spending repeated possessions on the wrong end.
Julius Randle supplied 33 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in his Brooklyn debut. Michael Porter Jr. added 26 points and seven rebounds. Their combined 59 points accounted for more than half the team’s scoring, making secondary production especially important Saturday. The official October 24, 12:15 a.m. ET report listed Tyler Bilodeau out with a right shoulder sprain. Brooklyn’s main scoring options were not listed on that report.
Cleveland Cannot Afford Another Half of Empty Possessions
Cleveland is 0-1 after Thursday’s 114-106 loss at Philadelphia. This is its home opener, so its home record stands at 0-0. The Cavaliers led by as many as 29 points and still lost by eight. That is a substantial swing, and it gives Cleveland a concrete problem to address rather than a vague need to play harder.
The Cavaliers scored 69 points in the first half but only 37 after halftime. Philadelphia outscored them 69-37 over those final two quarters. Cleveland needs to keep creating useful shots when the initial matchup changes instead of settling into stagnant possessions. Defensively, it must contain penetration without giving Brooklyn’s primary scorers repeated favorable switches. A strong first quarter will mean little if the execution disappears again.
Donovan Mitchell finished Thursday with 32 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden contributed 16 points and five assists, giving Cleveland another creator who can help prevent the offense from becoming predictable. The latest checked report listed Khalifa Diop out with a left knee issue, Nae’Qwan Tomlin out with a lower-back stress reaction and Ernest Udeh Jr. out on a G League assignment. No restriction was listed there for Mitchell or Harden.

Brooklyn Nets vs Cleveland Cavaliers Picks and Predictions
Spread Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers -10.5
I’m taking Cleveland -10.5. The Cavaliers have multiple creators and a chance to make Brooklyn work through difficult possessions rather than trade straightforward scoring opportunities. Their first half Thursday showed how quickly they can establish control. The second half showed why this spread carries risk. Cleveland needs useful offense throughout the game, and Brooklyn’s extra rest gives the visitors a reasonable opportunity to prepare. I still expect enough defensive stops and secondary creation from the home team to produce a double-digit win.
Total Pick: Under 231.5
Under 231.5 is my best bet from the slate. Brooklyn scored 103 in its opener even with 59 from Randle and Porter, and Cleveland’s most immediate priority should be avoiding the defensive breakdowns that fueled Philadelphia’s comeback. I expect the Nets to have stretches where generating a good second option is difficult. The risk is Cleveland scoring so efficiently that Brooklyn needs only an ordinary night to push this over. Turnovers creating runouts would also hurt. My projection is Cleveland 118, Brooklyn 105, leaving 8.5 points below the total.
