CFL Best Bet of the Week

Best Bet: Calgary Stampeders -2.5

I’m laying the points with Calgary this week. Asking the Stampeders to win by a field goal at home is simply a number I’m comfortable backing. Home-field advantage still means something in the CFL, and Calgary is in a position to establish the tempo from the opening drive rather than having to play catch-up.

The spread also feels a little short. Toronto is certainly capable of making this a competitive football game, but I think Calgary has enough advantages to separate over four quarters. When I can grab a home favorite at less than a field goal, that’s usually a wager I’ll make every time. I also like the over in this matchup, but Calgary covering the spread is where I believe the best value sits on the Week 5 board.

Toronto Argonauts vs Calgary Stampeders Pick

The moneyline pick for this matchup is Calgary, the ATS pick is Calgary -2.5, and the total pick is Over 59.5.

This is one of my favorite games on the Week 5 schedule because the betting line leaves plenty of value on Calgary. The Stampeders only need to win by a field goal to cash the ATS ticket, and that’s a number I think they can reach while playing at home. Toronto has enough offensive talent to stay within striking distance, which is another reason I like the over. Both teams should have success moving the football, but Calgary has the edge in a game that feels like it stays competitive before the home team pulls away during the fourth quarter.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs Ottawa Redblacks Pick

The moneyline pick for this matchup is Saskatchewan, the ATS pick is Saskatchewan -5.5, and the total pick is Under 56.5.

Saskatchewan deserves to be favored here, and laying fewer than a touchdown doesn’t scare me. I expect the Roughriders to control the pace for most of the game and gradually wear Ottawa down over four quarters. Instead of chasing a larger payout on an alternate spread, I’ll gladly take the current number. The under also offers value because this matchup feels more likely to be decided through sustained drives and timely defensive stops than a back-and-forth shootout. If Saskatchewan avoids costly mistakes, both the favorite and the under should be in excellent position.

Edmonton Elks vs BC Lions Pick

The moneyline pick for this matchup is Edmonton, the ATS pick is Edmonton -1.5, and the total pick is Over 57.5.

This may be the toughest game to handicap all week because the spread is so small. When oddsmakers make a game this close, I usually lean toward the team that only has to win by a couple of points, and that’s Edmonton here. I also like the over because both offenses should be able to generate scoring opportunities. It wouldn’t surprise me to see momentum swing back and forth throughout the night before Edmonton makes one or two key plays late. I’ll take the Elks to edge out a close victory while the game finishes above the posted total.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats Pick

The moneyline pick for this matchup is Hamilton, the ATS pick is Hamilton -3.5, and the total pick is Under 57.5.

Hamilton laying 3.5 at home is another number that stands out to me this week. The Tiger-Cats are in a good spot to protect their home field, and I think they make enough winning plays to cover the spread. Winnipeg should keep things competitive, but this feels more like a grind than a shootout. That’s why I’m leaning toward the under as well. If possessions become more valuable and both defenses tighten up in the second half, Hamilton winning by four to seven points fits the game script I’m expecting.

How to Bet CFL Games

The three most popular CFL betting markets are the moneyline, point spread (ATS), and game total. Each market offers a different way to attack a matchup depending on where you believe the betting value exists.

A moneyline wager is simply a bet on which team will win the game outright. It’s often the easiest market for new bettors to understand because the final margin doesn’t matter.

ATS betting, or against the spread, requires a team to cover the sportsbook’s point spread. Favorites must win by more than the listed number, while underdogs can either win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread.

Total bets focus on the combined points scored by both teams. If you expect an offensive game, you’ll lean toward the over. If you think defenses will control the matchup, the under may provide better value.

What We Consider When Making CFL Picks

Our CFL picks are built around identifying betting value instead of simply predicting winners. We evaluate quarterback play, offensive and defensive efficiency, recent team form, turnover margin, special teams, home and road performance, scheduling spots, injuries when available, and how the betting market is pricing each game.

Because point spreads and totals can move throughout the week, always compare the latest odds before placing your wager.

CFL Betting Tips

The CFL’s larger field and three-down format often create explosive scoring opportunities and dramatic momentum swings. That makes bankroll management even more important than picking individual winners.

Stay disciplined with your wager sizes, avoid chasing losses after a bad week, and remember that successful sports betting is about finding value over an entire season—not winning every game.

Responsible Gambling Reminder

Sports betting should always be treated as entertainment, not guaranteed income. Only wager what you can comfortably afford to lose, and never chase losses. If betting stops being enjoyable or begins creating financial stress, take a break and seek support.
