Buffalo Bills NFL Draft Recap – NFL Preview & Prediction
The Buffalo Bills were looking to shore up some of their positions in the draft and add depth in other positions. The major needs for the Bills came quite a bit on the defensive side of the ball with an edge rusher, linebacker support and a cover corner. The offensive side of the ball needed some help at the guard position and the running back position. So who did the Bills decide to take in the draft? Let us find out in our Buffalo Bills 2020 NFL Draft Recap.
Round 1 – No Draft Picks
The Buffalo Bills did not have a draft pick in the first round.
Round 2 (22) AJ Epenesa, DE, 6’5” 275 pounds.
Epenesa ws the first pick for the Bills who did not have a pick in the first round. However, he has quite a bit of skill for the position and is able to get off of his blocks in college fairly quickly. That type of skill will definitely help the Bills out in getting the pressure ratched up compared to what the Bills did last season.
Round 3 (22) Zack Moss RB 5’9” 223 pounds
Coming out of Utah Moss was able to showcase his good balance of power running with finesse. Now, Moss did not really run that well in the timed trials, but he did look a lot better when running on the field. What the Bills could be banking on here is the fact that they lucked out last year in the third round with a running back and look to repeat it to form the perfect tandem runners.
Round 4 (22) Gabriel Davis, WR, 6’2” 216 pounds
The Bills did not really need to get the extra wide out in the draft. However coming out of UCF the Bills thought they would have a decent chance here. Davis has the right size to tower over some corners, but he is one wide receiver that even if he does make the grab over the corner will be closely shadowed or run down from behind as he lacks the NFL caliber speed.
Round 5 (22) Jake Fromm, QB, 6’2” 219 pounds
Fromm could be one of the steal picks this late in the draft. Granted, the Bills did not really need a quarterback, but when a player with the talent of Fromm comes out this late in the game it definitely can be a gem of a player. Fromm is more along the average size and some may consider short for the NFL, but think Doug Flutie type of player. The one thing that Fromm has going for him is not arm strength as that is only average at best, but his accuracy and pinpoint precision can be compared to Tom Brady type of style.
Round 6 (9) Tyler Bass, K, 5’11” 185 pounds
A kicker is one position that a lot of teams do not draft for, but for Buffalo it was along the lines of a requirement. The free agency market or an accurate kicker is expensive and even then it is questionable at best anymore. A big question mark for Buffalo is if Bass can regain his form from 2018 instead of what was going on last year when his accuracy suffered quite a bit.
Round 6 (28) Isaiah Hodgins, WR, 6’4” 210 pounds
Yes, Buffalo must be looking to a solution that not many people are aware of as the Bills took another wide out. This time Hodgins comes from Oregon State, which at least passed the ball quite a bit more. Now, Hodgins is able to go over most of the corners, but the lack of running ability after the catch in college and even in a lot of the reports has to call into question if Buffalo is looking more for a guy that can catch and bring the ball in.
Round 7 (25) Dane Jackson, CB, 6’0” 187 pounds
Jackson is a 3 year starter for the Pitt Panthers, but still does not really know how to keep his hands to himself. For most of his career the coaches would have to tell Jackson to stop playing ball hawk and getting so touchy with his hands. What is even worse is the speed of the NFL players could leave Jackson trying to play backup and he simply does not have the speed.
