Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox 6/8/19 – Game 1 MLB Pick, Preview, Prediction

Boston Red Sox PickKicking off a doubleheader can be a great feeling for the starting pitcher and that is what is going to happen here for the Rays Yarbrough and the Red Sox Price. However, the feeling can quickly go away if you have to leave the game early or even worse you saddle your team with a loss and that easily disrupts the momentum of the game.  So not only do you get the relief of knowing you do not have to pitch later, but you get the pressure that comes from having to get your team started on the right foot and potentially being forced to go deeper into the game.

Tampa Bay Rays Preview

The Rays offense has been fairly decent most of the year with an average of .260 on the year with 541 hits this year. When it comes to scoring the runs the Rays have managed to get a clip of 283 runs scored and 78 homers.  Austin Meadows is the hitter for the Rays on the year with a total of 12 homers and a  .349 average, but he has managed to drive in a total of 38 runners on the year.

Pitching for the Rays has been done at an ERA of 2.99 this year and have allowed the opponent to hit only at a clip of .220. The Rays have struck out 579 batters and walked only 176 this year. Ryan Yarbrough is the pitcher starting the game for the Rays. He has posted a 4-2 record and a dismal 6.23 ERA. He has only thrown 34.2 innings while striking out 23 batters and walking 8, but has given up 34 hits.

Boston Red Sox Preview

With the Red Sox the team has only managed to hit at a clip of .261 on the year with 564 hits. The Red Sox have ended up scoring 338 runs and have managed to hit a total of 89 homers. Mitch Moreland is the power threat for the Red Sox with 13 homers. Rafael Devers has managed to hit at a clip of .316 this season and Xander Bogaerts has driven in 40 runners this year.

For the pitching staff the Red Sox have managed to get a team ERA of 4.37 this year and have allowed the opponents to hit only at a clip of .239 this season. What else helps the Red Sox out is the fact that they have only allowed 198 walks and have struck out 606 batters on the season. David Price is the pitcher who takes the mound for the Red Sox and he has a 3-2 record and a 2.83 ERA. He has thrown a total of 54 innings this year while striking out 59 batters. He has allowed 12 walks and only 44 hits on the season.

My FREE MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox

I really wanted to say Tampa Bay to bring home the win in this game. However, the Green Monster is going to play havoc with the Rays offense, but throw in the fact that Yarbrough has not really gone deep in the games yet this year and starting a doubleheader in the first game can put a lot of pressure on him and that will really push his arm and that leads to mistakes as he gets gassed around the 5th or 6th inning and those mistakes will haunt him in the game. Final Score Prediction, Boston Red Sox win 5-3.
