Phillies

The Marlins were able to pick up a win in their last game before the All-Star break. The win came over the Atlanta Braves by a 7-4 score, but in their last 5 games the Marlins are 2-3. Now, the Marlins have a record that is sitting at 39-50 which is 5th in the National League East.

As a team the Marlins have managed to post a .372 slugging percentage. The Marlins have ended up with a .302 OBP, but have an average of .233. The Marlins have scored a total of 353 runs on the season. Pitching for Miami has resulted in 35 quality starts on the year, but the opponent is hitting at a clip of only .227 on the season. Miami has managed to get a team ERA of 3.43 on the season and have posted a WHIP of 1.19.

Philadelphia ended up picking a very impressive win over the Red Sox in their last game. The Phillies ended up taking down the highly vaunted Boston Red Sox team by a 5-4 score. With that win the Philadelphia Phillies moved to a 44-44 record which is sitting in 2nd place in the National League East. In their last 5 games the Phillies have looked somewhat impressive going 3-2 in their last 5 games.

On the year the Phillies have ended up with an offense of .240 average, but have a slugging of .400. When it comes to the on base percentage the Phillies are sitting at .316 and have managed to get a total of 402 runs scored. The pitching for Philadelphia has only managed to get 34 quality starts, but have also allowed the opponents to hit at a clip of .248 on the year. The Phillies have ended up with a 4.39 ERA and the WHIP for the Phillies is sitting at 1.30.

Sandy Alcantara is starting the first game of the double header for the Marlins. This year Alcantara has thrown 116.2 innings while striking out 102 batters, but has walked 34 batters and allowed 10 homers with 97 hits. Alcantara also has a 5-8 record and a 3.09 ERA. The Phillies are countering with Matt Moore on the day. Moore has ended up with 31.2 innings thrown on the year and has struck out 24 batters, with 17 walks 7 homers and 35 hits allowed. Moore has managed to post a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA on the season.

Marlins at Phillies Prediction: Miami Marlins

Odds From Betonline.ag

While it would be easy to pick the Phillies as they have the better overall record, it is not the team that I am going with. The Marlins are coming in hitting better and with Alcantara on the mound here the Marlins have the better starting pitcher on the mound. Philadelphia did pick up a win over the Red Sox before the break, but now the starting pitcher is Matt Moore and that will make it harder for the Phillies to win. Moore has not thrown a ton on the season and even when he has thrown Moore has been roughed up with 20% of the hits allowed finding the stands and that would in part explain the 5.40 ERA. Look for the pitching of Moore to be the part that cost the Phillies in the game here as the Marlins hitting is not the best, but with strong pitching from Alcantara brings home the win.
