Raphael Assuncao vs Cody Garbrandt 6/6/20 – UFC 250 Picks & Preview

UFCThe Bantamweight fight here will feature Assuncao who has 7 losses in his career, but 27 wins facing Garbrandt. Garbrandt is coming in with 3 losses out of his 14 bouts, but it could be a stretch to see him losing here with his level of skill compared to what Assuncao is bringing to the octagon. No matter what, though, this is one fight that could be a make it type of moment for Garbrandt.

Heading into the fight here Raphael uses an orthodox type of stance, but coming from Brazil he uses what many people would expect in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which will definitely help him out here. He has been on a losing skid lately losing his last 2 fights with one being a unanimous decision and one by submission. Those losses have dropped him to a 27-7 record overall, but his TKO/KO record sits at 4-1 and he is 10-2 in the submission department. When it comes to significant strikes Assuncao has ended up throwing 3.32 per minute in his fights, but has ended up with an accuracy that is sitting at 41.04%.

No Love is heading into the fight here with the same stance, but unlike his opponent he is known more as a striker. The downside is in the last 3 fights those have not really lived up to the hype for him as he lost all 3 of those last fights by a KO/TKO including the last one to Pedro Munhoz. Those 3 losses have dropped him to an 11-3 record, but he is 9-3 in the TKO/KO market and does not have a win or loss when it comes to submission. For his part Garbrandt is coming into the fight here throwing 3.53 significant strikes per minute. Garbrandt is not nearly as accurate with his percentage landing at 37.02% of the time.

The tale of the tape is showing that Assuncao is coming in standing at 5’5” and 135 pounds. Assuncao does have a 66 inch reach that will help him out quite a bit. Garbrandt comes in taller at 5’8”, but does not have the reach advantage with a reach of only 65 inches. He is coming in weighing in at 135 pounds.

The fight here is one that could go either way. Both fighters are struggling as of late and that will make a difference in the fight here. However, for Garbrandt the fight could really be an issue as he seems to have developed  a glass jaw in his past few fights and in 2 of those did not even make it out of the first round. Look for those issues to continue here for Garbrandt who ends up having issues in dealing with the blows from Raphael Assuncao . I look for Assuncao to outlast Garbrandt and take advantage of what has been a very recently glass jaws Garbrandt.
