2020 Chicago White Sox Preview – MLB Preview & Prediction

Chicago White SoxThe White Sox are one team that showed some improvement last year. The White Sox were looking good towards the end of the year, but ended up running out of time and that did not help the White Sox in chasing down the Twins, Indians or even the wild card spot. Now, the White Sox are coming back in this year and should be able to play at least at the same level and possibly a little bit higher in the standings than what the White Sox did last season.

Chicago White Sox Starters

The White Sox starters are fairly strong for the most part. The leader of the rotation is Lucas Giolito and he is followed by Dallas Keuchel. Reynaldo Lopez is third in the rotation then the White Sox have Dylan Cease and Gio Gonzalez behind him. The staff ace for the White Sox is Lucas Giolito who started 29 games for the White Sox and threw 176.2 innings while striking out 228 batters and posted a 14-9 record while getting a 3.41 ERA.

Chicago White Sox Relievers

With the White Sox the relievers are coming in playing good last year and the White Sox are coming back almost fully intact as well. The bullpen is projected to have Steve Cishek, Aaron Bummer, Evan Marshall, Jimmy Cordero, and Kelvin Herrera. The closer for the White Sox is projected to be Alex Colome. Colome last year played in 62 games and threw 61 innings while striking out 55 batters. Colome did end up with a 4-5 record and 30 saves with 3 blown saves, but only posted a 2.80 ERA.

Chicago White Sox Catchers

The catcher position for the White Sox is fairly well set in stone with Yasmani Grandal and James McCann holding the position. Grandal is the projected starter for the White Sox. Last yer Grandal ended up hitting at a clip of .246 in 153 games for the Brewers, but Grandal did hit 28 homers and brought home 77 runs. When it comes to playing defense Grandal threw out 27% of the runners on him.

Chicago White Sox Corners

The corners for the White Sox is stable yet again this year barring any injuries. The White Sox have Jose Abreu at first and Yoan Moncada at third base. The backup for first is Edwin Encarnacion and Danny Mendick. Last year for the White Sox Abreu played in 159 games while hitting at a clip of .284, but was very powerful with 33 homers and brought home 133 runner. Moncada was good for the White Sox with 132 games played in and hit at a clip of .315 and hit 25 homers while bringing home 79 runners.

Chicago White Sox Middle Infield

The middle of the White Sox infield is decent at short with Tim Anderson, but the second base position is held down by Nick Madrigal. The backup for second is Leury Garcia. Madrigal is a rookie this year and that will definitely be a challenge for the 22 year old, but the big news is he does have quite the support network around him in the infield. Anderson for his part played in 123 games while hitting at a clip of .335 on the year and hit 18 balls into the stands while bringing home 56 runners.

Chicago White Sox Outfield

The White Sox outfield is the one part of the team that could be seen as a weakness this year. The outfield has Eloy Jimenez in let field, Luis Robert in center, but Nomar Mazara in right field. The backup in left field is Adam Engel, but Leury Garcia could be overworked as he not only backs up at second, but also in center and right. Last year Jiimenez played in 122 games while hitting at .267 on the year and cranked out 31 homers with 79 RBIs. The question mark in the outfield for the White Sox comes in the form of Robert who is a 22 year old rookie coming out of Cuba. Mazara is only 24, but the leader in the outfield in games played. Mazara comes from Texas where he played in 116 games and hit at a clip of .268 with 19 homers and 66 runners brought home.

Chicago White Sox Designated Hitters

The designated hitter for the White Sox is a defensive liability in Edwin Encarnacion. Last year Enarnacion split his time between the Yankees and the Mariners. The totals for Encarnacion was 109 games played with a .244 average and 34 homers and 86 RBIs on the year.

Chicago White Sox Prediction

The White Sox are one team that will surprise a lot of people this year. Yes, the White Sox do have a couple of rookies heading out this year it will be a team that has a lot of talent. Not to mention one of the rookies that the White Sox are planning on sending out is a highly touted rookie from Cuba. Look for the White Sox to jump over the Indians in the standings here and potentially chase down the Twins. The White Sox made all the right moves and are definitely one team that should be considered for the playoffs.
