With the Twins, the team made some dramatic leaps compared to what the Twins had looked like a short time ago. Now, the Twins are one team that is the favored team to pretty much win any game that the Twins head into. Not to mention, the Twins were able to add some additional talent and have ended up getting some great production from the roster last year and it could potentially carry over this year as well. Minnesota Twins Starting Pitching
The starters for the Minnesota Twins could have some good runs and have a decent amount of depth to the rotation as well. Jose Berrios is the staff ace for the Twins, but he is followed up by Jake Odorizzi, Kenta Maeda, Rich Hill, and the one question mark on the rotation would be Homer Bailey. Last year Berriors threw in 32 starts for the Twins with 200.1 innings completed. Berrios ended up fanning 195 batters while posting a 14-8 record with a 3.68 ERA.
Minnesota Twins Relievers
The Twins do have to make calls to the bullpen and when the Twins make those calls they tend to play decent and have some good pitching from the bullpen. However, the bullpen is one of the most underrated in the majors because of the lack of big names. The main pen should consist of Sergio Romo, Trevor May, Tyler Duffey, Tyler Clippard, and Zack Littell. When it comes to closing out the games the Twins will rely on Taylor Rogers. Rogers last year pitched 60 games for the Twins with 69 innings pitched. He did strike out 90 batters while posting a 2-4 record with 30 saves and only 6 blown saves with a 2.61 ERA.
Minnesota Twins Catchers
The catching position for the Twins should be interesting with Mitch Garver projected to start. He is supposed to be backed up by Alex Avila. The third string for the Twins is Williams Astudillo who also backs up some infield positions. Garver last year played in 93 games for the Twins while hitting at a clip of .273, with 31 homers and 67 RBIs. Defensively, though, the runners had an easy time with Garver only throwing out 16.2% of the runners.
Minnesota Twins Corners
On the corners the Twins should be fairly solid with Miguel Sano on first and Josh Donaldson at third. The downside for the Twins is Marwin Gonzalez backs up both of the positions for the Twins and that could lead to the Twins getting overworked. Last year Sano played in 105 games for the Twins while hitting at a clip of .247, but provided plenty of power with 34 homers and 79 runners brought home. Last year Donaldson played for the Braves and played in 155 games. Josh ended up hitting at a clip of .259 with 37 homers and 94 RBIs on the year.
Minnesota Twins Middle Infield
The middle infield for the Twins is in the same position as the corners with Ehire Adrianza being the backup for the positions. However, Luis Arraez is starting at second and Jorge Polanco is supposed to be starting at short stop. When it comes to Arraez last year he played in 92 games. Arraez hit at a clip of .334 with only 4 homers and 28 runners brought home. Last year for Polanco with the Twins he played in 153 games while hitting at a clip of .295 while hitting 22 homers and 79 runner brought home.
Minnesota Twins Outfield
When it comes to the outfield the Twins look fairly solid and do have some depth, but it could be questionable depth as Gonzalez backs up in the outfield and the starting right fielder is the backup for center. The one that does not have any other areas of coverage is Jake Cave who backs up in right. The starter for the Twins outfield is Eddie Rosario in left, Byron Buxton in center, and Max Kepler in right. Last year Rosario played 137 games for the Twins and hit at a clip of .276 with 32 homers and 109 runners brought home. Buxton for his part ended up playing in only 87 games for the Twins. Buxton did hit at a clip of .262 with 10 homers and 46 runners brought home. For his part Kepler played in 134 games for the Twins and managed to hit at a clip of .252 with 36 homers and 90 RBIs.
Minnesota Twins Designated Hitter
Nelson Cruz is coming in to be the designated hitter for the Twins. The 15 year veteran played in 120 games for the Twins. Cruz, was very productive with his bat hitting at a clip of .311 and managed to park the ball in the stands 41 times and brought home 108 runners.
Minnesota Twins Prediction
The Twins are one team that has added to their star power and that will be a scary thing for any of the AL Central rivals. The Twins have the power hitters, the pitching, and a closer that has done good for the Twins in the past. What else helps the Twins case out quite a bit is the fact that the team is steady and typically does not have long losing streaks. Look for the Twins to play great this year, whenever the season starts and if the Twins avoid any injuries look for them to dominate the AL Central.
